Breast Reduction

Excessively large breasts can cause a variety of symptoms. Breast reduction, also referred to as reduction mammoplasty, can relieve neck, back, and shoulder pain associated with very large breasts. It also enhances the overall appearance of the breasts.

Breast reduction surgery removes fat, glandular tissue, and skin from the breasts. This makes the breasts smaller, lighter, and firmer.

The procedure can also reduce the size of the areola. Breast reduction surgery gives a woman smaller, better-shaped breasts that are proportional to the rest of her body.

A breast reduction is a two to three hour operation performed under general anesthetic as an outpatient. The neck, back, and shoulder pain caused by the excessively large breasts is immediately relieved. The degree of discomfort after breast reduction is often mild. Patients usually return to work within a few days.
