Procedure of the Month Breast Implant Screening
Whether you have had breast implants for a few years or many years, you should be aware that they are not considered lifetime devices. Though they should last for 20 to 25 years or longer, problems can occur earlier. That is why you should have periodic Breast Implant Screening by a plastic surgeon.
Many implant problems such as pain, swelling, severe firmness, and saline implant deflation are obvious and prompt patients to make an appointment. However, a couple of problems are far more difficult to detect. One such problem is early firmness, which can often be treated with medication. Another problem is silicone gel implant rupture which can be completely asymptomatic, a so called silent rupture. We provide physical exam and ultrasound screening to detect these problems.
And remember, breast implants are covered by a lifetime replacement policy. If your implant is ruptured, the manufacturer will provide you with 2 replacement implants for free. If they fail within 10 years, some financial assistance is also available.
