How Does Fotofacial RF Work?

At Doctors MedSpa in Little Rock, AR, we proudly offer numerous cosmetic treatments to help our clients look their best. One of our most popular rejuvenation treatments is known as FotoFacial RF. If you are interested in rejuvenating your skin with a quick, comfortable, highly-advanced treatment, keep reading to learn more about this treatment, including how it works.

How Does FotoFacial RF Work?

FotoFacial RF rejuvenates your skin by repairing the collagen and elastin found deep in your skin. These substances are responsible for keeping your skin young, tight, smooth, volumized, healthy, and properly pigmented. Therefore, once your collagen and elastin are repaired, you can expect your skin to look and feel a lot better. The treatment device repairs the supportive substances deep within your skin by delivering radiofrequency and IPL (intense pulsed light) energy.

However, healing existing supportive substances is not all that this treatment does. It also encourages your skin to produce more collagen and elastin.

How Quickly Does This Treatment Work?

This treatment starts affecting your skin during your convenient treatment session. However, it takes time for your skin to heal itself and produce extra supportive substances. In some cases, you may not see your desired results for two to six months after your first treatment session.

What Can I Do To See My Final Results Faster?

If you want to see your final FotoFacial RF results as quickly as possible, you need to make sure that your skin is primed to produce collagen and elastin as efficiently as possible. There are several steps you can take to facilitate this. One effective step you can take to ensure your results appear faster is keeping your skin moisturized and hydrated. Most people only need to moisturize once daily, but you may need to use an occlusive moisturizer twice daily.

You also should be consuming enough hydrating fluids that your urine is pale. Additionally, you can help yourself get faster results by staying nourished.

How Many Treatment Sessions Will I Need?

Depending on the severity of your cosmetic concerns, you may need between five and six treatment sessions to achieve your desired results. Typically, these sessions are spaced three to four weeks apart. How close together your sessions are scheduled plays a major role in affecting how long it will take you to see your desired results.

What Should I Expect During My Treatment Session?

You can expect your treatment session to be quick and comfortable. If you only have mild cosmetic concerns, your session may only take 30 minutes to complete! Another factor affecting how long you can expect your treatment session to take is the size of the areas you are trying to treat. We will advise you on how long you should expect your session to take during your initial evaluation once we have assessed the scope of the treatment required.

Am I a Good Candidate for This Treatment?

As a general rule of thumb, you can expect to qualify for this treatment if you are concerned about age spots, enlarged pores, vascular skin conditions, or sun damage. However, you need to attend an initial consultation to verify your candidacy. There are a number of contraindications, and there are several preparation steps you will need to take in advance of your treatment. If you aren’t willing to follow these guidelines, you will be deemed a poor fit for treatment.

What Contraindications Should I Be Aware of?

Some of the most common contraindications of this treatment are vascular disease, a history of bleeding disorders, and the daily use of anticoagulants or blood-thinning drugs or supplements. Additionally, you will not be considered a great fit for this treatment if you are pregnant or nursing. Moreover, you should not consider this treatment if you suffer from cancer or malignant disease, including moles that are pre-malignant.

What Preparation Steps Will I Need To Take Prior to Treatment?

One of the most important preparation steps you will need to take prior to treatment is to discontinue the use of topical retinoid treatments seven days prior to your appointment. This is so important because topical retinoids make your skin extremely susceptible to sun damage. If you get a sunburn before your appointment, the appointment will need to be rescheduled because we can’t treat you if your skin is irritated in the targeted treatment area.

It is also essential that you mitigate the risk of sun damage by minimizing the amount of time you are exposed to powerful sunlight and wearing at least a broad-spectrum 30 SPF sunscreen. Also, you may need to stop taking certain antibiotics, and you must not smoke or consume alcohol prior to your treatment session. Additionally, you should keep your skin hydrated and well-nourished in the weeks leading up to your treatment.
