“My first breast augmentation was done in 1999, and was also done by Dr. Gene Sloan. At that time, I had 400 mL saline implants placed under the muscle. Silicone wasn’t even an option at that point in time for “first timers,” and there wasn’t much reason to even research the difference between the two products. I had heard that silicone felt more natural, but I was very pleased with my saline implants and I couldn’t really imagine anything feeling any different or even better. My saline implants looked great, I had absolutely no problem with them immediately postoperatively or even years down the road, and I was very happy with my results. However, after 2 pregnancies and breastfeeding both of my children, I did lose quite a bit of breast tissue. Finally, 12 years after my first surgery, I decided to have a second augmentation surgery.

My first implants had been placed under the muscle, which provided a very natural result. This time I wanted a much larger implant, and Dr. Sloan recommended that we go over the muscle on this second surgery. I was initially a bit hesitant about going “over the muscle” with this surgery. I kept remembering having seen poorly done breast augmentations, both online and in one my friends (of note, none of these had been done by Dr. Sloan), and I was afraid of having that look of hard, well-delineated balloons under the skin that I had come to associate with many over-the-muscle breast augmentations. I always felt through the years that going under the muscle was largely responsible for my first surgery’s great results. However, I did trust Dr. Sloan because he had performed such an amazing procedure the first time.

I am now almost 3 months out from my surgery, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. Most surprising is the natural look and feel of the new implants. Even though they are twice the size of my original implants, they feel even more natural. In touching my breast, it is almost impossible to tell where my own breast tissue ends and where the implant begins. Even though there didn’t seem to be much difference in consistency in the sample implants I was allowed to inspect at Dr. Sloan’s office pre surgery, there’s a marked difference in how they feel inside one’s body. It truly feels like my own breast tissue, and I certainly wouldn’t say the same about the saline implants. Again, I was very pleased with my original saline-implant surgery, but there’s a reason that silicone implants were brought back to market after being proven to be a safe from an autoimmune standpoint. They are a decidedly superior product.

I wholeheartedly recommend transitioning from saline to silicone if you’re considering a future breast augmentation. I never had anyone share with me the difference that a silicone implant can make, and I would have had my second surgery much earlier had I known about the difference. In addition to choosing the right product, of paramount importance is, of course, selecting your surgeon. I can’t praise Dr. Sloan or his team highly enough. Dr. Sloan continues to prove why he is considered the top in his field of practice, and his knowledge and professionalism are very reassuring when discussing personal issues involved in making a decision about an upcoming surgery. I have referred several friends to Dr. Sloan for their surgeries, and I will continue to support his practice. I wish that everyone could be as pleased with their postsurgical results as I am!”
