The FDA has recently approved Radiesse®, Juvederm™, Sculptra®, ArteFill®, Hylaform®, Restylane®, Radiance™, Cosmoderm® and Cosmoplast®.
Juvederm™, Hylaform®, and Restylane® are all dermal fillers made from a highly purified form of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in all living organisms and provides volume and fullness to your skin.
Radiesse™ is a dermal filler made of unique calcium-based micro-spheres suspended in a natural gel. Your body absorbs the natural gel leaving behind the calcium microspheres. Over time your very own collagen forms around the calcium to leave you with a long lasting result.
Sculptra® is a dermal filler that contains very small biocompatible, biodegradable, synthetic particles from the alphahydroxy acid family. Sculptra® is approved by the FDA to restore and/or correct the signs of facial fat loss.
ArteFill® is the first FDA approved non-resorbable dermal filler. Artefill® consists of purified collagen and 0.3% lidocaine to alleviate discomfort during injection.
Cosmoderm ® and Cosmoplast ® are both human collagens. These are used similarly to bovine collagen. However, unlike bovine collagen, human collagen treatment does not require skin test.
Collagen, a bovine collagen, has been around for many years and is still popular because of its reliability.
